Cleared up chronic ear infections. February 25, 2009 katnip_ct 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Our local pet store owner suggested this food when I showed her my dachshunds ears that were red, inflamed and never seemed to clear up even after I don't know how many antibiotics our vet prescribed. Within a few weeks they were totally cleared up and we never had the problem again.
Also, he used to get hot itchy spots on his belly in the summer and those never came back either. I highly recommend it!
Rebuttal on the negatives May 30, 2010 Annette Lund (Dallas Texas) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For all readers out there who are trying to decide if Natural Balance Potato and Duck formula is for your dog, please be aware that these are the exact same smears going on in other web sites regarding this food. Apparently someone does not like what Mr Van Patten is doing and is grossly exxagerating the claims of what his food is doing to their dogs. Most likely, these people as I said are competitors or they are feeding their poor dogs table scraps on top of this high quality food. People like to kill good things out there and most people do not do their homework to see if their claims match the truth to the facts. Why is it that these same people will keep feeding their dogs this food and keep cleaning up after their supposed diarrhea and bloody mess? If this is indeed and issue, deal with it tactfully and with professionalism by contacting the company so they can fix the problem. Keep your receipts in case there is a problem, and stop feeding your dog the food all over again when he/she has a perceived problem with it. This is getting old and immature. Deal with it correctly and your dog will be fine. Actually, if I was your dog with your attitude, I think I might be messing in the house too.
Excellent! May 24, 2010 DNP (Pacific North West) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I researched foods very carefully when we decided to change over, and we decided to try Natural Balance, duck and potato formula, for our 2 dogs, and our son's 2 dogs.
We found that the pieces were not overly large, with was nice for the senior, and smaller of the 4.
Then, we discovered that they loved it; one, and all. They wouldn't leave the bag alone, and when we tried to change them over slowly, they just picked the Natural Balance out of the bowls, leaving the old food behind.
Even so, none experience the slightest system upset at the changeover, not even the one with the sensitive stomach, and everyone looks good, is acting well, and continues to look forward to their meals. Even the dog who has never eaten a whole bowl of food in a meal since he was a puppy is now regularly doing so.
I can't guarantee the same results for every dog, as each is an individual, but after trying it on 4 different breeds, and age groups, I can say that I'd recommend it highly as worth a try for someone else!
No problem here... August 27, 2010 dbsuppes I've been feeding my dog this food for three years now due to her allergies. I haven't had any problems at all, I'm not sure what the deal is with all of the negative reviews. Perhaps they changed their dog food too rapidly which causes negative side-effects. You need to mix the old food with the new food for several days before changing brands.
Has done wonders for my dog May 27, 2010 Kelly (Los Angeles) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've been using this food for 3 years and did not even notice the formula change. I have a dog that used to get chronic ear infections, hot spots and infected anal glands. Since I put her on this food she has not had ONE problem with any of the above. It has saved me hundreds of dollars in vet bills. Occasionally we will get a bag of this food that is a funny color and the dogs don't eat as eagerly so, clearly there is occasionally some inconstancy with the ingredients but I have never had a problem with either of my dogs becoming ill from it. It's been a real help to us.
